Shah alam: The Selangor government can withdraw approval for land that has been given for building a non-Muslim house of worship if it is not developed within the specified period, the Selangor State Assembly was told today. State Local Government and Tourism Committee chairman Datuk Ng Suee Lim emphasized that land for which approval was withdrawn would be reassigned to those in need.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Special Committee on Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Sikh, and Taoist (Limas) has approved 400 land slots for the construction of non-Muslim houses of worship since 2008. The policy is designed to ensure that land allocated for religious purposes is utilized efficiently and benefits the intended communities.
Datuk Ng Suee Lim stated that if no house of worship is constructed within the stipulated timeframe, the state government retains the right to reclaim the land. This measure was highlighted in response to a supplementary question from Lwi Kian Keong (PH-Sungai Pelek), indicating the government’s commitment to managing land resources judiciously and catering to the needs of religious groups requiring space for worship.
