KPT Monitoring IPTs For Militant-related Activities – Zambry

Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) is actively monitoring any activities related to militant movements based on the extremist ideology of the Islamic State (IS) among students at higher learning institutions (IPT). Its minister, Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir, stated that this monitoring follows the recent arrest of several individuals, including 36 Bangladeshis, suspected of being involved in the militant movement based on the ideology under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (SOSMA).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Zambry emphasized the continuous monitoring of the situation in collaboration with security forces, particularly the police, to prevent the spread of such ideologies, whether originating from within the country or abroad. He highlighted the strong and effective cooperation between KPT and the security forces during a meeting with reporters after opening the Setiawangsa UMNO delegates meeting.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail previously mentioned that some of those arrested had been repatriated to their countries of origin. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail confirmed that no Malaysians were recruited into the militant network, noting that the investigation by the Special Branch of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) only involved Bangladeshis who brought extremist beliefs based on IS ideology to Malaysia.
