Kuala lumpur: Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) experienced a 10.3 percent increase in international passenger traffic in July 2025, as reported by Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB). This surge saw passenger numbers rise to 3.9 million in July from 3.6 million in June.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the growth was partially attributed to network expansion efforts, notably the introduction of Loong Air’s (GJ) tri-weekly service connecting Kuala Lumpur and Xi’an. This new route has enhanced KLIA’s connectivity to important Chinese markets. In a statement, MAHB highlighted that the stronger ties with China are contributing to Malaysia’s economic growth and reinforcing KLIA’s status as a key hub in Southeast Asia.
MAHB’s managing director, Datuk Mohd Izani Ghani, emphasized the broader benefits of these direct air links with emerging cities such as Xi’an. He noted that they not only increase passenger traffic but also present new trade and investment opportunities. He stated, “This positions Malaysia as a vital gateway for China-Southeast Asia movement, supporting growth in aviation, tourism, and commerce, and accelerating regional integration.”
In July, Malaysia Airports handled a total of 8.9 million passengers across its local network, consisting of 4.6 million international and 4.3 million domestic travelers. Additionally, Istanbul Sabiha G¶k§en International Airport, a wholly-owned asset in Trkiye, reported handling 4.4 million passengers in the same month, including 2.3 million international and 2.1 million domestic travelers. Altogether, the group’s airports managed 13.3 million passengers in July, reflecting a 5.7 percent increase from June.
