KUALA LUMPUR: The decision to implement the multi-lane fast flow (MLFF) toll payment system is expected to be finalized on December 16, according to Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Works Ministry (KKR) is still considering the proposed implementation of MLFF in detail. In addition, the highway concession companies involved also need to approve it. Ahmad Maslan highlighted the issue of “concession upon concession,” explaining that a new MLFF concession needs to be established for 33 old concessions that own highways in 33 regions. Half of these highways, spanning between 1,500 to 2,500 kilometers, are owned by PLUS Expressways Bhd, which has expressed disagreement with the new concession arrangement. Despite these challenges, Ahmad assured that MLFF remains under serious consideration by KKR, and a Cabinet Paper will eventually be prepared.
In another development, Ahmad Maslan announced that KKR would discontinue the installation of glow-in-the-dark road l
ines in areas without street lights. He explained that the ministry had experimented with this method in several areas, but the results did not meet expert expectations. Due to its high cost and unsatisfactory outcomes, KKR will continue using white lines for such areas.
Regarding the Pan Borneo Highway project, Ahmad stated that the highway’s construction does not include the provision of street lights along the route. Instead, street lights will only be installed at the entrance and exit junctions.
The lower house of Parliament later approved the total expenditure estimate of RM10,349,480,800 allocated to KKR in Budget 2025. The KKR estimates at the committee stage of the bill were debated by 24 Members of Parliament.
