Kota bharu: Donations of food and clothing for the victims of the fire in Kampung Gok Kapur have now exceeded current needs, and as such, the Kelantan Social Welfare Department (JKM) is encouraging the public to channel cash aid to support the victims' long-term recovery. Kelantan JKM director Che Samsuzuki Che Noh stated that all 27 victims of the fire have received assistance and continuous monitoring from the agency since the incident occurred on Monday.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, current donations in the form of food and clothing from various parties have surpassed the needs of the victims. Meanwhile, JKM continues to supply basic necessities during this interim period. The public is advised to provide cash contributions, which are more urgently needed for the victims' long-term needs, such as finding temporary accommodation, paying rent, and covering other expenses during the post-fire recovery process.
Che Samsuzuki mentioned that JKM had provided immediate assistance of RM300 to each affected family the day following the incident to help ease their burden. As the situation progresses into the fourth day, most victims are now staying with relatives, while six families remain at the temporary evacuation centre in Masjid Banggol. JKM has deployed personnel and counsellors at the centre to manage the victims' needs and offer psychosocial support, maintaining control over the situation without specific requests being made.
The fire, which destroyed 27 houses in Kampung Gok Kapur, is still under investigation by the Fire and Rescue Department's forensic team.
