Tanah merah: The Kelantan Public Works Department (JKR) is engaged in design work and a feasibility study to identify suitable slope repair methods at the Bukit Remah Water Treatment Plant, which suffered damage due to heavy rain on November 26 last year.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Kelantan JKR director Nik Soh Yaacoub reported that the incident caused a 130-meter soil movement, impacting the sheet pile structure at the plant. The federal government, through the Finance Ministry, has allocated RM6.6 million for the repair works. Currently, soil investigation, design work, and detailed measurement are underway to determine the most appropriate repair strategy. This was conveyed during the opening of the Kelantan JKR Asyura Perdana program.
Nik Soh highlighted additional damages, including ruptured raw and treated water pipes, along with threats to critical structures such as the chlorine room, chemical storage tanks, and the Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) substation. The aim is to commence the project before the monsoon season to ensure the safety of the plant and nearby residents, with completion expected by mid-next year.
In another development, Nik Soh commented on the infrastructure project concerning the main road from Kota Bharu to Kuala Krai (KB-KK), which connects to the Central Spine Road (CSR). The project is progressing smoothly, with all construction packages awarded to contractors. Despite some projects having only recently started, work is on track and anticipated to conclude within two years, with a total allocation exceeding RM2 billion.
He also addressed public concerns regarding the condition of the Sungai Durian bridge in Kuala Krai. Upgrading work on this bridge will commence once the KB-KK route is completed, with the existing road serving as an alternative route. This initiative is part of a long-term plan to enhance Kelantan’s road network, improving efficiency, safety, and support for the state’s economic development.
