Kuala lumpur: The Home Ministry (KDN) is set to present a report on the implementation of the Refugee and Asylum Seeker Special Detention Centre (PPKPPS) in Bidor, Perak, to the Cabinet next month. Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail announced this during the National Economic Action Council (MTEN) meeting, following a directive from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the report is scheduled for submission in the second week of June. Saifuddin has tasked KDN deputy secretary-general (Security) Datuk Abdul Halim Abdul Rahman with preparing an urgent Cabinet note on the matter. This initiative aligns with responsibilities assigned by the National Security Council under a comprehensive refugee management framework.
Saifuddin stated that the Bidor PPKPPS is crucial in Malaysia's efforts to enhance its refugee management system. He emphasized the potential of this project to significantly influence the country's approach to managing refugees comprehensively.
The KDN had previously taken steps to improve policies concerning foreign nationals, including refugees and asylum seekers. The Bidor PPKPPS facility is designed to function not only as a screening and documentation centre but also as a national reference hub for security screening, biometric verification, documentation, and status assessment.
