JPJ To Strengthen Enforcement To Eradicate ‘Ulat’ Activities At KLIA

Kuala lumpur: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) will strengthen enforcement at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 (T1) and T2 by increasing the number of personnel to carry out 24-hour patrols and monitoring in an effort to combat legal tout or 'ulat' activities. Its director-general, Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli, said that the measure will be implemented starting next week, following instructions from the Ministry of Transport (MOT) to ensure that the activity can be curbed more effectively.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Aedy Fadly announced that the Selangor JPJ deputy director, Datuk Ahmad Kamarunzaman Mehat, has been tasked with increasing the number of personnel stationed at KLIA. "Next week we will issue instructions, and some duty officers will be permanently stationed at KLIA (T1 and T2) to carry out patrols," he said at a press conference in conjunction with the KLIA Ops Ulat.

Currently, only 17 JPJ personnel are stationed at KLIA T1, covering shifts from 7 am to midnight, with no dedicated personnel at KLIA2. The plan is to implement a three-shift assignment for 24-hour coverage, as ulat activities occur at any time, including as early as 4 am when flights begin to arrive.

JPJ will also place officers with higher grades to lead enforcement units at both air terminals, ensuring that monitoring and enforcement operations are conducted more effectively. The reinforcement effort aims to ensure that the country's entry points are free from individuals offering illegal passenger transport services, which negatively impact the country's image.

Furthermore, JPJ is collaborating with Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) to enhance passenger announcements through displays at airport terminals, encouraging the use of legitimate and licensed transportation services. Aedy Fadly assured that JPJ will not compromise with any parties involved in these activities and will continue to intensify enforcement at KLIA T1 and KLIA T2 to protect user interests and the country's reputation.
