Putrajaya: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) is in the final stages of determining the personnel numbers for its counter service job rotation, which involves 1,907 staff across the country, stated JPJ Director-General Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli. The initiative is being carried out in collaboration with the Public Service Department (JPA) for those under the shared service scheme, while JPJ will internally manage reassignments for non-shared service personnel.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the job rotation process was initiated following a directive from the Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, on January 20. The transition is phased to ensure the continuity of daily counter services without disruption. The directive came after Shamsul Azri highlighted the need for a policy review for civil service counter staff who have been in their roles for over five years, considering such tenure excessive.
In response, the director-general of Public Service, Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz, announced the commencement of the Counter Service Staff Rotation initiative on February 4, involving all ministries, to enhance public service quality and counter efficiency. Aedy Fadly noted that JPJ counter staff exceeding five years of service will transition to office-based roles, with suitable back-office personnel moving to counter duties.
Aedy Fadly emphasized that the process is gradual due to the number of staff involved. He mentioned that JPJ personnel understand the Public Service Circular’s stipulation for job rotation after five years in a position, and they have expressed no objections. The director-general also expressed hope that the rotation would allow counter staff to gain new experiences and responsibilities, while providing others with the chance to gain firsthand counter service experience, supported by training.
