JPJ Encourages B40 Students to Join Second Phase of MyLesen B2 Programme

Kedah: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has expressed hope that more school students from the B40 group will join phase two of the MyLesen B2 programme, which allows them to obtain a free motorcycle licence.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli stated that this initiative aligns with the 10,000 new spots recently announced by Transport Minister Anthony Loke. The programme aims to support underprivileged secondary school students aged 16 and above in obtaining their motorcycle licence to facilitate their commute to school.

JPJ, along with the Ministry of Education and state education departments, is working on expanding the MyLesen B2 programme to the school level. Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli expressed hope that the government would consider increasing the allocation for the programme next year, citing its overwhelming response and potential for ensuring better compliance with road traffic laws.

The government initially allocated 15,000 spots for the free motorcycle licence under phase one of the programme, which commenced in February. The MyLesen B2 programme is part of efforts to enhance mobility, employment opportunities, and road safety for the B40 group by providing them with a free Class B2 of the Malaysian Driving Licence (LLM).

Additionally, Aedy Fadly mentioned that lowering the minimum age for obtaining a driving licence requires government approval, along with thorough preparations and discussions. The current minimum age is 16 for a motorcycle licence and 17 for a car licence. Any changes would necessitate careful planning at driving institutes and consideration of parental concerns.
