Johor: Police have opened three investigation papers so far after receiving seven reports related to the 16th Johor State Election. Johor police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad stated that the investigations are ongoing, with two papers opened under Section 435 of the Penal Code for mischief by fire or explosive substance, and Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, another investigation paper has been opened under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. These investigations are addressing allegations of seditious conduct and the improper use of network facilities.
"Since nomination day on Saturday (June 27) until yesterday, we have received seven Johor state election-related police reports," Ab Rahaman said in a statement today. He emphasized that security control and monitoring will be intensified across all constituencies to ensure the election process runs smoothly, orderly, and safely. He assured that no incidents affecting public order have been reported so far.
The security situation in the Johor polls remains calm and under control, with 3,903 personnel, including 544 officers, 3,247 rank-and-file personnel, and 112 civilian staff, deployed to safeguard the election process. Ab Rahaman also highlighted that monitoring of social media platforms has been intensified by working closely with relevant agencies to curb the spread of fake news, unverified information, and provocative or seditious content that could disrupt public order.
He urged all parties involved to continue observing the law, avoid provocation, and refrain from spreading false or unverified information. Traffic flow at all election-related locations has been reported to be smooth and under control. The polling day is set for July 11, with early voting scheduled for July 7.
