Johor Polls: BN To Run ‘Mature Politics’ Campaign, Says Zahid

Kuala lumpur: BN will adopt a 'mature politics' approach by refraining from attacking, criticising or disparaging its rivals throughout the campaign for the 16th Johor state election. BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the approach is important to preserve political harmony, while allowing the coalition's campaign machinery to focus on promoting the strengths of its candidates courteously and constructively.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ahmad Zahid emphasized the coalition's commitment to avoiding hostile tactics despite differences in opinions and views on Johor. He stressed the significance of considering the broader national context during the campaign. This was conveyed at a press conference after the launch of the Benut state seat's 'Gelombang Biru' campaign in Kampung Parit Ismail. The event was also attended by BN's Benut candidate Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan.

Ahmad Zahid, who serves as UMNO president, highlighted the role of BN's campaign machinery in determining the coalition's success. He noted that the effectiveness of responses to issues raised by the opposition across state constituencies would be crucial. The coalition is contesting all 56 DUN seats, with 37 candidates from UMNO, 15 from MCA, and four from MIC.

In the 2022 Johor state election, BN achieved a two-thirds majority, securing 40 of the 56 DUN seats to form the state government. Ahmad Zahid also called for loyalty and continued efforts from party leaders and members who were not selected as candidates, urging them to work towards a decisive victory for BN.

Furthermore, he dismissed claims about BN giving up seats to other parties, reaffirming the coalition's commitment to contesting under the Barisan Nasional logo. The Johor state election is scheduled for July 11, with early voting taking place on July 7.
