Johor bahru: The Johor Royal Malaysian Customs Department successfully intercepted two drug smuggling attempts, seizing a total of 3.825kg of cannabis through operations conducted in Pontian and Batu Pahat during May and June.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Director Aminul Izmeer Mohd Sohaimi detailed that the department’s Narcotics Branch enforcement team executed the first raid near Pekan Nanas, Pontian, on May 21. During this operation, two Pos Laju parcels containing compressed plant matter, suspected to be cannabis weighing 130g and 97g, were discovered. A man in his 40s, suspected to be the courier, was detained for further investigation.
Aminul Izmeer reported that additional items were found during the raid, including a black bag containing 55g of suspected cannabis, three cannabis smoking devices, and a blender. The total value of the seized drugs and equipment was estimated at RM22,860, and a motorcycle valued at RM10,000 was also confiscated. The case is currently investigated under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
In the second operation, Aminul Izmeer explained that a team from the Marine Unit of the Batu Pahat Enforcement Branch intercepted an unregistered boat docked in a mangrove swamp near a ferry terminal on June 5. The team discovered three compressed packages, believed to be cannabis, wrapped in Chinese tea packaging, weighing 3.063kg with an estimated value of RM98,016. The boat, worth RM4,000, was also seized, with the case also being investigated under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
