Johor bahru: The proposal to establish a Rapid Transit System (RTS) 2 to connect Tuas and Iskandar Puteri has emerged as a central topic of discussion between Johor and Singapore. Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi highlighted this during his meeting with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong at The Istana in Singapore.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the nearly one-hour meeting focused on enhancing cooperation between the two regions. Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi noted that the proposal for the RTS 2 system was among the key points deliberated, aiming to further bridge Tuas and Iskandar Puteri.
“This meeting is not just a symbol of the close relationship between the two neighbouring countries, but also reflects the shared determination to take Johor-Singapore cooperation to a more strategic and holistic level,” Onn Hafiz stated in a release.
Currently, the existing four-kilometre RTS project, which connects Bukit Chagar in Johor Bahru to Woodlands North in Singapore, is set to be completed by December 2026 and operational by early 2027. This rail transport system is designed to accommodate up to 10,000 passengers per hour in each direction.
Onn Hafiz is on a three-day official visit to Singapore, having started his visit yesterday on the invitation of Singapore’s Foreign Minister Dr Vivian Balakrishnan.
