Johor bahru: The Election Commission (EC) has announced that polling for the Johor state election will occur on July 11, while the Negeri Sembilan state election is set for August 1. Nomination day for the Johor polls is scheduled for June 27, with Negeri Sembilan's nomination day slated for July 18. Early voting procedures will commence on July 7 for Johor and July 28 for Negeri Sembilan.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, EC chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun revealed these details during a press conference following a special meeting to finalize arrangements for the upcoming elections in both states. He specified a 14-day campaign period for each election, beginning after the official declaration of candidates and concluding at 11:59 pm on the eve of polling.
Johor's election will engage 56 nomination centres, whereas Negeri Sembilan will operate eight such centres. Financially, the Johor election is projected to cost RM86.8 million, with Negeri Sembilan's election estimated at RM80.6 million. In terms of voter demographics, 2.7 million individuals are eligible to vote in Johor, while Negeri Sembilan has 867,151 eligible voters.
For early voting, 24,751 military and police personnel and their spouses will participate in Johor, with 22,339 individuals involved in Negeri Sembilan. These voters will cast their votes at 64 early voting centres in Johor and 38 in Negeri Sembilan. Postal voting applications opened on June 5 for Johor and today for Negeri Sembilan, with deadlines set for various categories.
The EC plans to appoint 42,971 personnel for the Johor election, covering 1,076 polling centres and 4,889 polling streams. In contrast, Negeri Sembilan will have 15,344 personnel managing 401 polling centres and 1,668 polling streams. Voters can verify their polling details through the mysprsemak.spr.gov.my portal, the MySPR Semak app, or the EC hotline.
Additionally, the EC is inviting election observers from various agencies and organizations to monitor the election process, ensuring transparency from nomination day to the announcement of results. The Johor State Legislative Assembly and Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly were dissolved on June 1 and June 5, respectively.
