Johor and Federal Government Aim to Boost Wages in Johor-Singapore SEZ

Johor: The Johor government, alongside the federal government, is set to engage with investors and companies in the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) to implement a more competitive minimum wage structure, targeting RM4,000 for fresh graduates.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi stated that the initiative is being refined through the Johor Talent Development Council (JTDC). Onn Hafiz emphasized the strategic importance of this move to improve the welfare of local workers and attract high-quality talent to support Johor’s economic growth.

Onn Hafiz also reiterated the priority of ensuring a clean water supply, appreciating federal support for approving new infrastructure projects that aim to increase treated water distribution capacity, particularly in strategic areas like the JS-SEZ. He mentioned a long-term plan to develop large-scale raw water resources to meet a daily demand of 2,000 million litres by 2060, highlighting Johor’s commitment to sustainable water supply for both residents and industries.

Furthermore, Onn Hafiz assured that the state government will focus on ensuring smooth, transparent, and impactful implementation of these initiatives for the benefit of all Johor residents. He expressed hope that the Maju Johor 2030 Agenda will be fully realized, driving the state towards balanced, sustainable, and inclusive development.
