Penang: The Inland Revenue Board (IRB) has identified 845 cases for audit and enforcement action in the 10th Tax Compliance Operation, codenamed OP Tanjong, conducted around Penang.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, IRB deputy chief executive officer (Compliance) Datuk Hisham Rusli stated that the operation, involving 238 officers, focused on key economic sectors, including manufacturing, electrical and electronics, digital and technology, logistics, contractors, and engineering. He emphasized that inter-agency collaboration would continue to be a vital component of effective and sustainable governance.

Datuk Hisham Rusli remarked that the implementation of OP Tanjong illustrates the IRB’s readiness to adapt its compliance strategies to the local economic landscape, ensuring that the principles of fairness and transparency are upheld. He further asserted that integrated efforts like OP Tanjong would serve as the foundation for a sustainable and transparent tax ecosystem, which directly contributes to enhancing the country’s fiscal capacity in support of the national development agenda.

The decision to conduct the operation in Penang is part of the IRB’s ongoing targeted initiative to bolster fiscal accountability and ensure fair implementation of the tax system at the grassroots level. The operation included six key activities: tax audits, verification of taxpayer information, strategic compliance, collections, enforcement of stamp duty, and legal action.

Additionally, the approach highlighted the importance of education by engaging directly with taxpayers to increase their awareness of their rights and responsibilities within the national tax system.
