KUALA LANGAT: The Immigration Department has identified several residential areas, particularly flats, as part of its efforts to address the presence of foreign migrant colonies. Deputy director-general (Operations) Jafri Embok Taha stated that these areas have been listed, and enforcement schedules will be arranged to ensure effective operations.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Immigration Department is collaborating closely with the National Security Council, state governments, local authorities, and the police to eradicate foreign migrant colonies in targeted areas. Jafri emphasized the department’s commitment to taking consistent action, whether on a small or medium scale, while acknowledging that not all issues can be resolved immediately. This announcement came after the opening of the Kuala Langat Immigration Office.
Recently, the department conducted an integrated operation with the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ), the police, and the National Registration Department at Pandan Mewah Apart
ments in Ampang Jaya. The operation, which lasted five hours, resulted in the detention of 119 foreign nationals after screening 400 individuals. The detainees included 89 Myanmar nationals, 14 Bangladeshis, eight Nepalis, and four each from Indonesia and India, aged between 18 and 50.
Jafri also highlighted the significance of the newly opened Kuala Langat Immigration Office, which is expected to alleviate congestion at other Immigration offices in Kelana Jaya, Shah Alam, and Petaling Jaya. This new office will benefit plantation operators and residents in Kuala Langat by providing international passport issuance services. It will soon handle visa and permit applications, catering to a population of about 300,000 in Kuala Langat, with a particular focus on the plantation sector. Jafri added that the process aims to streamline services, allowing passports to be ready within an hour or so.
