Immigration Department Detains Over 30,000 Foreign Nationals for Offences

Kuala lumpur: The Immigration Department detained a total of 30,801 foreign nationals for various offences as of May 31 this year. Immigration director-general Zakaria Shaaban announced that 2,324 of these detainees had misused their immigration passes by engaging in activities that were not in line with the purpose of their entry into Malaysia.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Zakaria stated that in compliance with the government's directive, the department has intensified enforcement against foreign nationals who violated the conditions of their passes or engaged in unauthorized employment and business activities within Malaysia. He emphasized the department's commitment to intensifying enforcement operations and strengthening strategic cooperation with ministries, enforcement agencies, and local authorities to ensure effective and comprehensive law enforcement.

Zakaria detailed the measures being undertaken, which include establishing an Enforcement Inspectorate, conducting targeted operations in identified hotspots, taking firm action against employers violating immigration regulations, and enhancing integrated operations with relevant enforcement agencies. These efforts align with the department's annual key performance indicators that prioritize action against foreign nationals and employers who breach immigration laws.

He reiterated the Immigration Department's dedication to ensuring that immigration facilities are utilized according to their approved purposes. The department is also committed to supporting government efforts to maintain public order, safeguard the integrity of the immigration system, and promote a fair economic environment for all.
