IFC Coach Optimistic About Quarter-final Chances Despite Stalemate with NSFC

Penang: Imigresen FC (IFC) head coach Yusri Che Lah remains hopeful about the team's prospects for reaching the Malaysia Cup quarter-finals despite a goalless draw against Negeri Sembilan FC (NSFC) in the first leg. The match, held last night, was a significant event as it marked IFC's debut in the prestigious tournament.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Yusri emphasized the need for the team to redouble their efforts in the return leg set for January 25 in Paroi. He highlighted the importance of securing a win in what could be a historic achievement for the new club. Yusri expressed that the draw was not the desired outcome and stressed the critical role of goals in advancing in the Malaysia Cup.

The seasoned 50-year-old manager acknowledged that his players initially struggled against the early high pressure from their opponents but managed to stabilize their performance after the initial thirty minutes. A potential goal was disallowed for offside, which was a setback for the team. Yusri noted the challenge of playing in front of a large crowd and facing Negeri Sembilan's intense atmosphere for the first time. He assured that the team is prepared for extra time and penalties if necessary.

Meanwhile, NSFC head coach Nidzam Jamil considered the goalless draw a fair result following recent losses to Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) FC and Selangor FC. Despite the need to rotate players due to a demanding schedule, Nidzam hoped for a more vigorous performance in the upcoming home leg. He acknowledged the threat posed by IFC's attackers, such as Wilmar Jordan Gil and Eduardo Sosa, and respected the challenge they presented. Nidzam stated the necessity of focusing on the next match and optimizing their efforts at home.
