IATA Records 2.6 Pct Growth In Global Passenger Demand In June 2025

Kuala lumpur: The International Air Transport Association (IATA) recorded a 2.6 per cent increase in total global passenger demand for June 2025.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, IATA’s director general Willie Walsh stated that the growth marked a slower pace than previous months, primarily due to disruptions stemming from military conflict in the Middle East. Despite the slower growth, global load factors remained strong, with a slight dip of 0.6 percentage points from record-high levels, reaching 84.5 per cent. Walsh noted that a modest 1.8 per cent capacity growth projected for August suggests that load factors during the northern summer are likely to stay near their historic highs.

The report provided a regional breakdown of the international passenger markets, highlighting that Asia-Pacific airlines saw a 7.2 per cent year-on-year increase in demand, with capacity rising by 7.5 per cent and a load factor of 82.9 per cent, a slight decrease of 0.2 percentage points compared to June 2024. European carriers experienced a 2.8 per cent year-on-year growth in demand, with a 3.3 per cent capacity increase and a load factor of 87.4 per cent. The data revealed a decline in North American demand by 0.3 per cent, with a 2.2 per cent increase in capacity and an 86.9 per cent load factor. Meanwhile, Middle Eastern carriers recorded a 0.4 per cent fall in demand, a 1.1 per cent year-on-year capacity increase, and a load factor of 78.7 per cent.
