Hong Kong’s Dragon Boat Festival Returns to Victoria Harbour with Over 190 Teams

Hong Kong: The 2025 Sun Life Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races are set to make a grand return to Victoria Harbour from June 7 to 8, serving as a key highlight of this year’s Dragon Boat Festival celebrations.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the event is being organized by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) and the Hong Kong China Dragon Boat Association. This year’s races will feature participation from over 190 teams representing 12 countries and regions, with new entrants from Qatar and Egypt marking their debut in the competition.

HKTB stated that the festivities are designed to celebrate Hong Kong’s rich cultural heritage while also promoting the city as a dynamic travel destination. The Tsim Sha Tsui East Promenade will be transformed into a lively festive hub, offering free entry and shaded viewing areas for spectators. Additionally, visitors can enjoy various performances, food stalls, and family-friendly activities along the Avenue of Stars starting May 31.

The Dragon Boat Festival has been recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) of Humanity. This year, the festival coincides with the inaugural Hong Kong ICH Month in June, during which highlight tours will provide insights into traditional craftsmanship, such as bamboo steamer-making.

Tour registrations will commence on June 9 at the Hong Kong International Airport Visitor Centre and Kowloon Visitor Centre. More details about the events and activities can be found on the Hong Kong ICH Month 2025 website.
