Seremban: The upgrading of the Haji Mohd Said Hockey Stadium in Seremban 2 is expected to enhance athletes' performance and support comprehensive sports development at both the state and national levels, particularly in hockey. State Youth and Sports Development Committee chairman Datuk Mustapha Nagoor emphasized the urgency of the project, noting that an allocation of RM5 million had been approved and that the public had been anticipating the facility's use.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the allocation has been approved and submitted to the Public Works Department (JKR), but the procurement process takes time. Mustapha stated that if the project can commence as early as May, it would be a positive step and should not be delayed further. He highlighted that one of the key factors in strengthening team performance is the availability of conducive and safe training facilities, which allow athletes to train under optimal conditions, thereby enhancing their abilities and achievements.
Mustapha urged all relevant parties to minimize bureaucratic delays and expedite the implementation process to ensure the stadium upgrade is completed according to schedule. He warned that if the allocation is approved but not implemented, the benefits would not be realized, ultimately being detrimental to the public.
Yesterday, the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) reported that the stadium upgrade project is expected to commence in May, subject to the tender evaluation process and the appointment of contractors. The project was tendered on December 24, 2025, with the tender closing on February 12. The stadium has been closed since 2020 due to damage to its artificial turf, drainage system, and floodlights. In February 2024, KBS allocated RM5 million for the upgrading works.
In another development, Mustapha noted that upgrading works at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi are currently underway with an allocation of RM5 million, covering repainting works, repairs to changing rooms, and improvements to the floodlight system. He also mentioned that the state government has approved the development of a new training center for the Negeri Sembilan Football Club (NSFC) in Mantin, which will provide the team with dedicated training facilities.
Mustapha expressed hope that all these facilities can be put to immediate use once completed.
