Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated that the government’s top priority is to ensure all initial aid is swiftly delivered to flood and landslide victims in Sabah. The situation is under close surveillance by the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), the state government, and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Dr Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is personally monitoring developments on the ground.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar has directed the full machinery of the Federal Government to support the Sabah government and district authorities in managing the disaster. He expressed deep concern and sorrow over the tragic events, particularly for the victims who lost their lives and the families affected by the destruction of property and damage to public facilities. Anwar emphasized the need for expedited early action, especially concerning public facilities like roads, schools, and health clinics.
Additionally, Anwar extended condolences to the families of the disaster victims. Nine people were reported killed in two landslides in Kampung Cenderakasih, Kota Kinabalu, and Kampung Mook, Papar, following continuous heavy rainfall. Furthermore, 863 people from 220 families have been relocated to temporary relief centers across four flood-affected districts in Sabah: Penampang, Beaufort, Membakut, and Tawau.
Earlier, Anwar approved an immediate allocation of RM10 million through NADMA to assist the flood victims. This amount is in addition to the RM11 million already provided through the state government for urgent repairs of essential facilities in the affected areas.
