Kuala lumpur: Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin announced that the government is committed to bolstering defence measures in Sabah, despite the state currently being deemed safe. He emphasized the importance of addressing potential threats due to Sabah’s strategic geographical location.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohamed Khaled shared via his Facebook page that the government is placing significant focus on preemptively managing any risks that could arise in this region. He underscored the heightened concern for security given Sabah’s position, which may expose it to more pronounced threats.
In his statement, Mohamed Khaled also urged veterans of the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) to remain engaged with societal roles, supporting the MAF in implementing a ‘Whole of Government, Whole of Society’ strategy. He highlighted the essential contributions of these veterans to national security, advocating for public recognition of their sacrifices.
During a working visit to Tawau, Mohamed Khaled had the honor of officiating the Malaysia Service Medal Award Ceremony. He expressed the nation’s gratitude to the MAF veterans for their courage and dedication, which have been pivotal in maintaining peace within the country. He stressed the importance of acknowledging their efforts and learning from their experiences to foster a brighter future for Malaysia.
Moreover, the Defence Minister reiterated his commitment to advancing the welfare of MAF veterans. He noted a continual increase in the annual budget allocated for veteran affairs, reflecting the government’s recognition of their invaluable service. Mohamed Khaled also expressed hope that the legacy of MAF veterans would serve as a source of inspiration for future generations, encouraging them to become steadfast defenders of the nation.
