Kuala lumpur: The Transport Ministry has announced plans to provide essential language and driver etiquette training for taxi drivers in preparation for Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026), as stated by Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook. According to BERNAMA News Agency, Minister Loke emphasized the significance of the taxi industry beyond its transportation function, highlighting it as a crucial component of the public service sector and a critical first impression for visitors to Malaysia. In addition to the training programs, the government has increased the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) contribution incentive from 10 per cent to 30 per cent. This measure is intended to further ensure the safety and welfare of taxi drivers.
Minister Loke shared these developments on Facebook, reaffirming his commitment to collaborate with the taxi industry to bolster the public transport sector for the benefit of the populace. He expressed his dedication to ongoing reforms within the sector.
The announcement was made following Loke’s participation in the third annual general meeting of the Malaysia Taxi, Rental Car, Limousine and Airport Taxi Association (GTSM). The event provided a platform for the Minister to engage directly with industry representatives and gain insights into their perspectives.
As the Transport Minister, Loke advocates for implementing meaningful reforms through active cooperation with industry stakeholders, such as the GTSM, to achieve substantial improvements in the public transport sector.
