Govt Agency Director Among Two Remanded in RM900,000 Bribery Investigation

Kuala Lumpur: Two men, including a director of a government agency in Terengganu, have been remanded for six days on suspicion of soliciting and accepting a bribe of approximately RM900,000 in exchange for securing a project, preparing, and approving several development plans for a consultancy firm. The remand order, effective until Saturday, was issued by Magistrate Sharifah Amierda Shasha Amir Shariffuddin, following an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at the Kemaman Magistrate’s Court.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the two suspects, both in their 40s, were apprehended around 3 pm the previous day when they appeared to provide statements at the MACC office in Kemaman. Initial investigations suggest that the offences were committed between 2015 and 2020, with bribes accepted in cash and through bank transfers to accounts belonging to the suspects and a sibling of one of them.

Both suspects were detained alongside another individual, who has since been released on MACC bail. Terengganu MACC director, Hazrul Shazreen Abd Yazid, confirmed the arrests and stated that the case is being investigated under the MACC Act 2009. Additionally, the MACC has seized a Toyota Vellfire vehicle belonging to one of the suspects, believed to have been financed by the involved company.
