Kuala lumpur: Rental rate reduction for premises under all federal government agencies, as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, aims to help small traders lower operating costs. It also reflects the government's responsiveness to small and medium enterprises' (SMEs) concerns.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Small and Medium Enterprises Association (SAMENTA) national president Datuk William Ng said in a statement that the proactive measure is a timely lifeline for small business owners and petty traders currently grappling with the global supply chain and energy crisis. "We express our strong appreciation to the Prime Minister and the MADANI Government for today's directive to reduce rental for business premises under MARA (Majlis Amanah Rakyat), UDA (Holdings Bhd), and local authorities," he said.
Earlier, Anwar said rental rates for premises under all federal government agencies would be reduced starting this month to help small traders lower their operating costs. The measure is part of government efforts to assist traders and hawkers affected by the ongoing global supply crisis, he said. Anwar mentioned that most of these shops are owned by companies or government agencies such as MARA and UDA. He noted that beginning this month, rental rates at all their business premises will be reduced, with details to be announced in the future, according to the respective districts.
Ng stated that SAMENTA remains committed to working alongside the government to realise the goals of the MADANI Economy. "We believe that by combining the current relief efforts with a postponement of the taxes on rental and dividend, we will help our SMEs better prepare for and fight the ongoing crisis," he added.
