Flood Situation in Sarawak Shows Improvement as Sabah Sees Slight Increase in Evacuees

Sarawak: The flood situation in Sarawak is reported to be improving, while Sabah has recorded a slight increase in the number of evacuees as of 8 am today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, in Sarawak, the State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) noted a decrease in the number of flood victims at the temporary evacuation centre at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bekenu in Miri. The number of evacuees has dropped to 135 people from 46 families, compared to 185 people from 54 families at 4 pm the previous day.

In contrast, Sabah has witnessed a slight rise in the number of flood victims in the districts of Beaufort and Tenom. The figures have climbed to 1,224 people from 433 families as of 8 am today, an increase from 1,206 people from 425 families at 4 pm yesterday.

The Sabah JPBN Secretariat reported that the floods have impacted residents across 14 villages, with nine villages in Beaufort and five in Tenom being affected. Beaufort recorded 661 victims from 223 families, while 563 people from 210 families were affected in Tenom.

To manage the situation, a total of eight temporary evacuation centres and one permanent evacuation centre are operational in both districts to provide shelter for all those affected.
