Kuala lumpur: The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) is set to file a police report concerning alleged document forgery involving seven Harimau Malaya heritage players. Acting FAM president Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mahadi confirmed this decision following an Executive Committee (EXCO) meeting at Wisma FAM.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, FAM intends to report the alleged forgery of documents submitted to the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) to identify those responsible. Alongside the police report, Mohd Yusoff mentioned that FAM will adhere to the recommendations by the Independent Investigation Committee (IIC) regarding the issue.
The IIC's 59-page report provided three recommendations to FAM concerning the document forgery. It suggested that FAM lodge a police report to enable a thorough investigation into the documents suspected of being forged and identify the responsible parties. The committee emphasized that the allegations involve forgery of official documents, a criminal offense under Malaysian law.
Additionally, the IIC recommended that FAM's Disciplinary Committee initiate internal proceedings against the association's secretary-general, following due process. The committee also advised FAM to implement oversight, structural reforms, preventive measures, and efforts to restore credibility in governance.
Commenting on the administrative reforms suggested by the IIC, Mohd Yusoff stated that FAM will only proceed with these reforms after receiving the official decision from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). He emphasized that the CAS ruling will influence whether the current leadership structure will remain or undergo significant changes.
FAM's current priority is to maintain the status quo while awaiting the CAS outcome before considering comprehensive reforms. Mohd Yusoff noted that this process must conclude first to make informed decisions benefiting FAM and Malaysian football.
He added that FAM has submitted all necessary documents to CAS and is awaiting the confirmation of the hearing date. "At this point, the matter has effectively reached the CAS stage. We are now just waiting for the hearing date to be fixed," he said.
