Kuala Lumpur: The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has announced plans to effectively utilise an additional RM30 million allocation to enhance national team development programmes. This funding boost was unveiled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and aims to support the development of football across all levels in Malaysia.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, FAM president Tan Sri Hamidin Mohd Amin emphasized that the funds will be directed towards bolstering the senior national team, Harimau Malaya, to improve their competitiveness in international tournaments. The allocation will also support enhancements in organisational management, ensuring that national team players receive optimal support from appointed experts.
Hamidin highlighted that the additional funding would significantly motivate national team players to strive for greater success. He expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for the announcement and thanked Johor Regent Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sultan Ibrahim for his ongoing support in elevating Harimau Malaya’s performance.
The funding increase was part of an announcement yesterday by Prime Minister Anwar, who stated that the initial RM15 million allocation under Budget 2025 for football development has been doubled to RM30 million, with half of the funds to be sourced from the private sector. The Prime Minister noted that the funds would also facilitate a comprehensive overhaul of FAM’s organisational management to ensure continuous support for national players from a dedicated team of specialists and coaches.
