Kuala lumpur: Members of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) Executive Committee (Exco) are considering resignation as an option to prevent FIFA from suspending the national governing body. FAM president Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mahadi announced this potential move following a meeting with Exco members.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the discussion was prompted by statements from AFC general-secretary Datuk Seri Windsor John regarding the possible suspension of FAM. Datuk Mohd Yusoff stated that if resignation is seen as the best solution, the decision will be made collectively, emphasizing the unity of the Exco.
The Exco also explored other alternatives to avoid suspension but did not disclose specific proposals. Datuk Mohd Yusoff mentioned that while they considered various viewpoints, no final decision has been reached, with a few options still under review.
The situation arose after comments from Windsor John highlighted potential international competition bans for Malaysian clubs and national teams if FAM is suspended due to allegations of document falsification involving seven heritage players. FAM has taken the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Switzerland, challenging FIFA's Appeal Committee's sanctions and fines against the players. The outcome of this appeal could result in further penalties, including suspension, if CAS rules unfavorably for FAM.
