Melaka: The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) will get a full report from the Melaka Football Association (MFA) and the match organiser following an incident in which a player died after he was believed to have been struck by lightning during a friendly in Melaka yesterday. According to BERNAMA News Agency, FAM secretary-general Datuk Noor Azman Rahman stated that the report will review the chronology of the incident and the actions taken, before identifying areas for improvement in game safety management. He expressed condolences to the family of the player who died in the suspected lightning strike during the friendly between Rembau Indian Veteran FC and Tanjung Minyak FC at Padang Kompleks Rakan Muda Lendu, Melaka. Noor Azman emphasized that FAM takes a serious view of the incident and hopes all parties will allow authorities the space to conduct investigations to determine the actual cause. He noted that the tragedy should remind the footballing community to always prioritize safety and urged all s tate football associations, clubs, academies, and match organisers to monitor weather conditions closely. He further suggested that FAM encourages organisers to consider implementing a Lightning Detection System at competition venues. This system can detect lightning activity in real time and provide early warnings to match officials, enabling timely decisions on safety. The system is used in many competitions, including professional leagues, as part of their risk management procedures. Noor Azman also mentioned that the decision to postpone or suspend a match for safety reasons should not be seen as a weakness in match management but as a responsible course of action.
