Fahmi Advocates for Original Residents to Have Priority in Kampung Kerinchi Housing Ownership

Kuala lumpur: Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has emphasized the importance of prioritizing original residents in the ownership of housing units in Kampung Kerinchi. Fahmi, who also serves as the Lembah Pantai Member of Parliament, proposed that 50 to 60 percent of home ownership in projects like Residensi Wilayah and Residensi MADANI be allocated to children of Kampung Kerinchi, particularly those from the second and third generations forced to live outside the area.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi expressed hope that this policy would enable the children of Kampung Kerinchi, including those who are part of the Persatuan Waris Kerinchi, to return and resettle in their original area. He made these remarks after officiating the Kampung Kerinchi landmark in front of KL Gateway Mall.

Fahmi stated that the home ownership priority policy is part of several measures aimed at preserving the identity and history of Kampung Kerinchi. He also mentioned plans to establish another landmark at the other entrance of Kampung Kerinchi and is in discussions with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to officially recognize the area as Kampung Kerinchi.

Additionally, Fahmi highlighted the importance of fostering relationships between the community and large companies in the area, such as Touch ‘n Go Digital, to organize industrial training programs and open days for the benefit of Kerinchi children.

He further noted that rapid developments like Bangsar South, Pantai Panorama, and Pantai Hillpark still fall within the boundaries of Kampung Kerinchi, providing potential advantages for local residents.

Meanwhile, Baharuddin Hasan, the chairman of Persatuan Waris Kerichi, expressed pride in the establishment of the landmark. He emphasized the importance of the landmark in recognizing the history of the area’s development, dating back to the time of Sultan Abdul Samad in the 1850s, and ensuring that the name and history of Kampung Kerinchi are preserved amidst ongoing development.
