Kuala Lumpur: A former director of the Kuala Lumpur Public Works Department (JKR) pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to five charges of receiving gratification, amounting to RM70,000, in connection with a maintenance project.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Ir Norman Md Rabani, 51, is alleged to have received RM70,000 without consideration from an individual involved in a proceeding or business related to his official duties. The alleged offenses occurred at a shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur between August 10, 2024, and January 23, 2025.
Norman faces charges under Section 165 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of two years imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction. The court proceedings were overseen by Judge Suzana Hussin.
Judge Hussin set August 20 for the next mention of the case. Norman was granted bail of RM20,000 with one surety. Additionally, he was ordered to surrender his passport, report monthly to the nearest Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office, and refrain from intimidating prosecution witnesses.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Natrah Fareha Rahmat represented the prosecution. Norman’s defense was led by lawyer Abdul Hakeem Aiman, who informed the court of Norman’s responsibilities, including supporting his four children, aged 16 to 24, who are currently studying, as well as his elderly parents.
