Education Pathway Through TVET Wide Open For 2024 SPM Graduates – Ahmad Zahid

Kuala Lumpur: The education pathway through Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), now acknowledged as a crucial driver of national progress, remains wide open to 2024 Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) graduates, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. The National TVET Council chairman stated that the results obtained by the 2024 SPM candidates mark the starting point of their next life chapter, whether continuing academic studies, entering the workforce, or pursuing technical and skilled fields.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ahmad Zahid emphasized that the door to education is always open to all SPM candidates. In addition to academic routes at public and private institutions of higher learning, the government also offers education pathways through TVET, which is increasingly recognized as a core driver of national development. Ahmad Zahid said beyond empowering human capital, TVET plays a pivotal role in laying the groundwork for a high-income economy that relies on a skilled and competent workforce.

As Chairman of the National TVET Council, Ahmad Zahid reaffirmed his commitment to championing the TVET agenda as a primary educational pathway, not merely as an alternative option for those who do not excel academically. He mentioned the government’s introduction of the UP_TVET channel as an official platform to apply for and continue studies in TVET programmes, with 12 ministries offering a total of 1,398 programmes nationwide.

The number of students participating in the TVET programmes increased to more than 436,285 participants last year, compared to 407,038 in 2023. The marketability rate of TVET graduates has also been impressive, reaching 94.5 per cent, with TVET institutions under MARA recording a remarkable 98.7 per cent employability rate. Ahmad Zahid urged all SPM graduates to take advantage of the opportunities ahead by selecting a pathway that aligns with their interests and potential.

‘I believe you are the generation of changemakers, destined to build a more advanced, highly skilled, and competitive Malaysia on the global stage,’ he said. The 2024 SPM examination results recorded the best achievement since 2013 with a National Grade Average (GPK) of 4.49 points compared to 4.60 in 2023. Analysis of the 2024 SPM results shows that the number of candidates who obtained excellent results, with Grades A+, A and A- in all subjects, increased to 14,179 people or 3.7 per cent compared to 11,713 candidates in 2023.
