Kuala lumpur: John Beasley, the Technical Director of the Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF), will maintain his position until the conclusion of his contract at the end of January 2027, according to MNCF President Datuk Amarjit Singh Gill. He clarified that reports of Beasley's resignation were incorrect, as the Australian coach intends to fulfill his current contract before stepping down.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, during a special MNCF press conference at Intermark, Amarjit emphasized the need to correct the misinformation circulating on social media, which suggested an immediate resignation by Beasley. He stated that this was not the case, and Beasley remains committed to his role until the specified period.
Amarjit revealed that after discussions with Beasley, both parties agreed to prioritize the preparation of national athletes for the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games. Beasley assured his continued support for the national program during the transition, ensuring the stability of existing plans.
Highlighting the bond between Beasley and the athletes, Amarjit stressed the importance of minimizing disruptions to the cyclists' preparations. He acknowledged Beasley's significant contributions to the development of Malaysian cycling over his 21-year tenure.
While Beasley plans to step down after his contract, Amarjit mentioned the possibility of him continuing in a different capacity, especially if cyclist Datuk Mohd Azizulhasni Awang pursues the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics campaign.
Additionally, Amarjit confirmed that MNCF has taken action against individuals attempting to create discord between the federation and Beasley. A show-cause letter has been issued to one individual, with similar measures being considered for another. Amarjit underscored MNCF's zero-tolerance policy towards conflict instigators and emphasized the importance of following established procedures for complaints.
