Labuan: The leadership of the Malaysian Islamic Chamber of Commerce, Labuan chapter (DPIM Labuan) has been re-elected unopposed at its annual general meeting (AGM) this year. Its chairman, Datuk Dr Ramli Tahir, stated that the previous committee members were retained at last weekend’s AGM as there were no contests.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Ramli, who also serves as a vice-president of the DPIM Central Committee, urged all chamber members to remain resilient amid the current economic uncertainties. He emphasized the importance of unity and mutual support among members to fortify Labuan’s economic foundation.
‘In these challenging times, we must uphold the spirit of solidarity and cooperation. Together, we can help revitalise Labuan’s economy through impactful and sustainable economic activities,’ he expressed. Dr Ramli also praised the organisers of the Borneo Flora Festival (BFF), which took place from July 26 to 30, for its success.
He highlighted that the festival attracted over 100,000 visitors, surpassing the initial estimate of 50,000, showcasing Labuan’s potential for development through large-scale events. Feedback from chamber members and participating traders was highly positive, especially regarding the substantial visitor turnout that boosted local business activity.
Dr Ramli also welcomed Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa’s plan to expand the programme next year. He expressed hope that DPIM Labuan would play an increased role and have greater involvement in future initiatives.
