Putrajaya: The diverse backgrounds and expertise of members in the bipartisan Special Committee on Corruption (JKmR) are set to enhance the committee’s effectiveness, according to its chairman, Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah. He emphasized that this diversity could also bolster the credibility of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Annual Report, which is anticipated to be presented soon.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohd Shahar stated that the JKmR, responsible for monitoring the MACC, remains committed to carrying out its duties with integrity. The aim is to ensure that the agency’s mandate is executed transparently, professionally, and without external influence.
“JKmR and MACC must respect each other’s jurisdiction, remain committed to shared objectives, and prioritize transparency to preserve public trust in national governance,” Mohd Shahar remarked during a meeting with MACC’s top management at the commission’s headquarters in Putrajaya.
The meeting was attended by MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki, Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operations) Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya, and other senior directors and division heads from the MACC. During the session, JKmR members suggested several measures to enhance MACC’s credibility in its anti-corruption initiatives. These measures included strategies to improve the Corruption Perceptions Index, using various communication platforms to enhance public perception, and addressing challenges in prosecuting corruption cases.
