Kuala lumpur: The Dewan Negara, which had been in session for 10 days since August 25, was adjourned sine die today. During the course of the sitting, the Senate passed 19 bills, including the Gig Workers Bill 2025, the Government Procurement Bill 2025, the Offenders Compulsory Attendance (Amendment) Bill 2025, the National Registration (Amendment) Bill 2025, the Education Bill (Amendment) Bill 2025, and the Atomic Energy Licensing (Amendment) Bill 2025, as well as the motion on the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the sitting also witnessed the swearing-in of three appointed senators: youth activist and PKR Rembau division chief Dr Jufitri Joha; DAP Central Executive Committee member Datuk Wu Him Ven; and DAP veteran Datuk Leong Ngah Ngah.

Meanwhile, Dewan Negara president Datuk Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah, in his closing speech, highlighted the tabling of a report by the Special Select Committee on Law Review. The report examined 10 bills, representing the committee’s ongoing efforts to assist senators in performing their legislative functions more comprehensively.

Awang Bemee stated that the committee’s active participation in conducting research, studies, and observations, as well as providing recommendations through statements, demonstrates the Dewan Negara’s strategic role in the process of drafting the country’s laws.

Furthermore, Awang Bemee expressed hope that senators participating in the 46th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) from September 16 to 22 would be able to share knowledge and best practices in strengthening cooperation among ASEAN parliaments.

He also extended appreciation to two senators who will be completing their first term of office: Senator Datuk Ros Suryati Alang and Senator Tan Sri Dr Mohamed Haniffa Abdullah, both of whom will conclude their terms on September 26.

The Dewan Negara was then adjourned sine die.
