Dewan Negara Concludes Session After Passing 13 Bills

Kuala lumpur: The Dewan Negara, which convened from December 1, was adjourned sine die after approving 13 bills.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the session saw the passage of significant legislation, including the National Skills Development (Amendment) Bill 2025 and the Skills Development Fund (Amendment) Bill 2025, both under the Ministry of Human Resources. Other notable bills included the Employees' Social Security (Amendment) Bill 2025 and the Employment Insurance System (Amendment) Bill 2025.

The Dewan Negara also approved financial legislation such as the Supply Bill 2026 and the Finance Bill 2025. Additionally, measures aimed at improving tax administration were passed. Under the Prime Minister's Department, the Anti-Bullying Bill 2025 and the Legal Profession (Amendment) Bill 2025 were approved.

Key legislative amendments from the Home Ministry included the Immigration (Amendment) Bill 2025 and the Passports (Amendment) Bill 2025. The session also saw the passage of the Rukun Tetangga (Amendment) Bill 2025 and the Perbadanan Kemajuan Filem Nasional Malaysia (Amendment) Bill 2025.

Highlights of the session included the presence of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for the second reading of the Supply Bill 2026. The Prime Minister announced a RM500 million allocation for infrastructure repair following recent floods and reiterated support for the BUDI MADANI RON95 programme.

During the oral question session, the Prime Minister announced upcoming amendments to the Whistleblower Protection Act 2010. The amendments aim to distinguish between genuine whistleblowers and those misusing the law.

Six senators took their oaths for a second term, including key figures such as Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir. Changes in the Cabinet line-up were also noted, with new appointments and some senators being dropped.

In his closing speech, Dewan Negara president Datuk Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah praised senators for their active participation. He extended best wishes for the holidays and advised caution on the roads.

The session concluded with the Dewan Negara being adjourned sine die.
