Lahti: Singapore-based data centre developer and operator, DayOne, has unveiled plans for a significant pound 1.2 billion investment to establish a hyperscale data centre campus in Lahti. This development is poised to become one of Finland’s most notable digital infrastructure projects. (1 Euro = RM4.90)
According to BERNAMA News Agency, DayOne Data Centers Chief Executive Officer, Jamie Khoo, emphasized Finland’s strategic importance for the company’s expansion in Europe. Khoo stated, “We are proud to invest 1.2 billion euros in the Lahti project into the Finnish economy and collaborate closely with Lahti to drive local innovation and sustainability.”
The project will involve transforming a former industrial site in Kiveri¶ into a state-of-the-art data centre, covering an area of 98,901 square meters, which is already zoned for industrial use. DayOne mentioned in a statement that site demolition is set to begin in the third quarter of this year, with the facility expected to be operational by 2027.
The design of the data centre campus aims to minimize disruption to surrounding areas while adhering to sustainable land-use goals, targeting LEED Gold certification or higher. This investment is anticipated to significantly enhance Lahti’s digital economy and create jobs, with projections of 100 direct skilled positions and up to 1,000 construction workers at the peak of construction.
In addition to its global presence in Asia Pacific and Europe, DayOne will enter a Growth Partnership Agreement with the City of Lahti, Lahti Region Development LADEC, Lahti Energy, and local educational institutions. This includes a commitment of pound 2.5 million to LUT Universities as part of the initiative.
