Kuala Lumpur: The Communications Ministry is set to visit 344 primary and secondary schools across the nation from May to August as part of its Safe Internet Campaign, with the aim of enhancing cybersecurity awareness among students.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Minister Teo Nie Ching highlighted the ministry’s intention to engage with as many schools and university campuses as possible. However, she mentioned that the success of this initiative depends on the willingness of these institutions to host the programme. The campaign will address different aspects of internet safety tailored to the educational level of participants, with a focus on preventing technology misuse among secondary school students and increasing job scam awareness at universities.
The campaign is backed by 196 trainers from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission’s Train the Trainers initiative, who will deliver sessions on cyberbullying, online safety, and digital literacy. Teo noted that the campaign has already commenced in nine schools and plans to extend its reach to more institutions in the coming months.
The announcement was made during a Diabetes Day 2025 event at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), organized by the Asian Medical Students’ Association. The event centered on holistic diabetes awareness and prevention under the theme Positive Steps Towards Health and also addressed topics such as digital health, women’s empowerment, and leadership in healthcare. Teo participated as a panellist in a special forum discussing the intersection of digital health and women’s leadership.
