China’s Trensor Invests RM100 Million for Overseas Plant in Penang

Penang: Trensor Co Ltd, a leading Chinese manufacturer of pressure sensors, is investing RM100 million to build its first manufacturing facility at the Penang Technology Park in Bertam. Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow stated that the upcoming four-storey facility, spanning 10,000 square metres, is expected to create 200 skilled jobs and generate over RM200 million in annual sales.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Chow Kon Yeow mentioned that the decision to establish the factory in Penang was made after a visit from Trensor’s management team a year ago. The facility marks a significant step in Trensor’s strategy to expand its manufacturing capabilities overseas.

Trensor is renowned as one of China’s leading manufacturers of pressure sensors, with a specialization in automotive pressure sensors through its Malaysia-based subsidiary, Trensor Electronics Sdn Bhd. The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by State Executive Councillor for Local Government, Town and Country Planning Hong Mooi Lye, Trensor chairman Zhou Jingxun, and Trensor Electronics general manager Stephen Zhou Wenbo.

Chow highlighted that Trensor Electronics, established in 2024, will focus on manufacturing pressure sensors, a critical component in automotive electronics. This facility is expected to support Trensor’s expansion into Southeast Asia’s growing automotive markets and beyond, producing automotive pressure sensors for export to North America and Europe.

He emphasized that the investment will bolster Penang’s electrical and electronics industry ecosystem, reinforcing the state’s position as a hub for precision engineering, automotive electronics, and high-value manufacturing. Chow also noted the global semiconductor industry’s pivotal role in technological advancement, driven by innovations in artificial intelligence, 5G, electric vehicles, and the Internet of Things.

Despite geopolitical challenges, the sector is projected to grow in the long term, with the global semiconductor market value potentially reaching US$1 trillion by 2030. Chow reiterated the significance of Penang in Malaysia’s electrical and electronics industry landscape.
