Bus Passengers Urged to Report Malfunctioning Seat Belts Using MyJPJ App

Kuala lumpur: Express bus and tour bus passengers now have the option to file complaints directly to the Road Transport Department (JPJ) using the MyJPJ application if they encounter issues with malfunctioning seat belts. The initiative aims to enhance passenger safety and ensure compliance with safety regulations.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Kuala Lumpur JPJ director Hamidi Adam emphasized the importance of passengers submitting complaints along with photo or video evidence and detailed information about their bus journey to aid in investigations. He highlighted the responsibility of bus drivers to remind passengers to fasten their seat belts before embarking on their journey.

“This measure seeks to elevate public transport safety standards and mitigate the risk of severe injuries or fatalities in accidents involving express buses,” Hamidi Adam stated at a press conference. The briefing took place during a special operation focusing on seat belt compliance for express and tour buses at the Gombak Toll Plaza.

During the operation, 23 express bus passengers were issued fines for not wearing seat belts, including 20 locals and three foreigners. Hamidi noted that many passengers claimed ignorance about the mandatory seat belt requirement while traveling on buses.

Additionally, notices were issued to two express bus drivers for violations, including driving in the right lane and having non-functional emergency doors. The operation, which commenced at 8 pm and concluded at midnight, inspected a total of 41 express buses and three tour buses.

Hamidi Adam emphasized that safety in public transportation is a collective responsibility, with compliance to legal requirements reflecting a commitment to human life. He called for collaboration among passengers, operators, and enforcement authorities to foster a safe and disciplined transport system.

The mandate for wearing seat belts on express and tour buses has been in effect since July 1, underscoring the importance of passenger safety in the transportation sector.
