Bursa Malaysia and Grab Malaysia Provide Transportation Aid to 500 Kidney Patients

Kuala Lumpur: A total of 500 kidney patients from the asnaf group in the Federal Territories are set to benefit from RM300 Grab ride vouchers, aimed at easing their transportation to dialysis treatment centres. The initiative involves a RM150,000 contribution through wakalah zakat funds from Bursa Malaysia and Grab Malaysia, under the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the contribution comprises RM100,000 from Bursa Malaysia and RM50,000 from Grab Malaysia. Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar emphasized that the program seeks to alleviate the financial strain on patients requiring long-term dialysis. He highlighted the significant transportation costs faced by patients traveling several times a week for treatment, noting that the vouchers, while modest, could help patients concentrate more on their care.

The announcement was made at the Zakat Collection Centre (PPZ)-MAIWP Ziarah Kasih program at the Batu Muda MAIWP-PICOMS Haemodialysis Centre. Present at the event were University College of MAIWP International (UCMI) CEO and vice-chancellor Datuk Prof Dr Noor Inayah Yaakub, Bursa Malaysia CEO Datuk Fad’l Mohamed, and Grab Malaysia’s country operations and mobility director Rashid Shukor.

Fad’l Mohamed stated that the wakalah zakat contribution illustrates Bursa Malaysia’s commitment to initiatives that benefit society. He remarked that a company’s success is not solely based on financial performance but also on its contributions to community welfare and sustainability efforts. He further noted that the collaboration with PPZ-MAIWP demonstrated how zakat could be used effectively to support the underprivileged and expressed Bursa Malaysia’s dedication to using zakat as a social finance tool, encouraging public-listed companies to also contribute to the community.
