Kuala lumpur: Bukit Aman’s Classified Criminal Investigation Unit (USJT) has taken over the probe into the death of Reserve Officers Training Unit (Palapes) cadet from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Skudai, Syamsul Haris Shamsudin. Its director, Datuk M. Kumar, stated that this decision follows the Shah Alam High Court’s approval for the family’s request to exhume the remains for a second post-mortem examination.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the court’s decision was delivered by Judge Datuk Bhupindar Singh Gucharan Singh Preet. The exhumation is set to take place at Kampung Rinching Ulu Muslim Cemetery in Selangor. The court has also ordered that the post-mortem be conducted by a forensic pathologist from Kuala Lumpur Hospital within 14 days. This procedure will be observed by forensic expert Datuk Seri Dr Bhupinder Singh and the family’s lawyer, Datuk Naran Singh, or his representative.
The forensic pathologist is required to produce a report within a reasonable timeframe, with a copy to be provided to the family’s legal counsel, Messrs Naran Singh and Co. This development comes after Syamsul Haris’s mother, Ummu Haiman Bee Daulatgun, submitted an application on August 19, seeking the exhumation and proposing an inquest.
Syamsul Haris, aged 22, passed away on July 28 at Kota Tinggi Hospital, Johor, while participating in training at the Army Combat Training Centre (PULADA) in Ulu Tiram. He was laid to rest the following day at Kampung Rinching Ulu.
