Bintulu Residents Unite for Post-Flood Cleanup Efforts

Bintulu: Floodwaters in several areas of Bintulu town began to recede yesterday, prompting many residents to start cleaning their homes. The clean-up effort has been a collective one, with both affected and unaffected residents coming together, demonstrating strong community support during the disaster.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, retired policeman Binar Berayan from Jade Garden shared his experience of helping neighbors affected by the flood. He and his son dedicated their time to ease the burden of cleaning for their friends. Binar expressed a sense of duty to assist, given that his own home was not affected by the floodwaters.

Animal activist and local influencer Francis Ngu Hown Hua also shared his story of receiving help from some of his followers. They assisted in cleaning his sundry shop located in the Pine Court apartment area. Francis acknowledged the damage and losses but emphasized the importance of safety over material possessions in a video posted on his Facebook page.

Another resident, 65-year-old Kembuan Thomas, highlighted the physical toll of the cleanup process. After spending a day cleaning his son’s house in Tanjung Batu, he continued efforts at his daughter’s house in Sebiew, where floodwaters had reached nearly to the roof. Kembuan called for community support, particularly for those with smaller families, to aid in returning homes to normalcy once relief centers close.
