Better Salaries Needed To Stop Health Workers Exodus To Singapore – Ling

Johor bahru: The Ministry of Health (MOH) has been urged to consider offering better salaries to address the issue of healthcare workers choosing to work in Singapore due to attractive offers. Johor Health and Environment Committee chairman Ling Tian Soon highlighted the need for increased focus on the intake of more trainees, particularly doctors and nurses.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ling Tian Soon stressed that the allure of attractive salary offers from Singaporean hospitals is not a new concern for healthcare professionals in Johor. Many healthcare workers have already accepted these offers, lured by the prospect of better financial packages.

Ling emphasized the importance of discussions with MOH to not only increase the number of trainees but also improve pay and opportunities for existing healthcare workers. This, he believes, would make them feel more appreciated and committed to serving in the public healthcare system. His remarks were made during a press conference following the Johor State-level Nurses Day 2025 celebration.

Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi was also present at the event, which saw around 1,000 nurses in attendance. Onn Hafiz announced an allocation of RM400,000 dedicated to the welfare of nurses in the state as part of the celebration.

Ling commented on a viral social media post highlighting lucrative job offers for Malaysian doctors in Singapore, with salaries reportedly exceeding RM300,000 annually. He asserted that improving remuneration within the country could significantly enhance the dedication and retention of healthcare workers.
