Bestari jaya: All parties must exercise caution and responsibility when commenting on issues involving other countries, said Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) vice-president Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari. Amirudin, who is also Selangor Menteri Besar, emphasized that not every matter should be turned into political capital, highlighting the need for maturity and moderation in Malaysia’s political landscape.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Amirudin made these comments in response to remarks by PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari, who was accused of undermining Malaysia’s diplomatic efforts to mediate a ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia. He criticized such remarks as reflective of irresponsible leadership, calling for leaders to distinguish between political maneuvers, national sovereignty, and the country’s future.
“What is important is that we remain mature in such situations. I heard he has apologized, which is a good step, but if everyone from the outset refrained from twisting issues for political gain, we would be in a far better, peaceful and stable place,” Amirudin remarked. These comments were made during the closing ceremony of the 2025 Selangor Menteri Besar’s Cup Marching Competition for uniformed units at Universiti Selangor (Unisel), Bestari Jaya campus.
Earlier, Ahmad Fadhli, who is also Pasir Mas Member of Parliament, posted a controversial social media illustration depicting three animals-a goat, a sheep, and a monkey-alongside a caption suggesting the goat and sheep should not need the monkey to mediate their dispute. This post, tied to news about the Thailand-Cambodia conflict, drew significant public criticism.
The controversy follows an announcement by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who revealed that Thailand and Cambodia had agreed to an immediate and unconditional ceasefire to alleviate tensions along their disputed border. This agreement was reached during a special meeting chaired by the Prime Minister in Putrajaya, attended by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thailand’s Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai.
